Department: Information Services
Shift: Days
Base Pay: 16.61+
Hours: 40 per week

Description:

You will be responsible for helping staff members in a wide variety of hospital departments improve their skills in using computer applications. Your main focus would be on the standard Microsoft Office 2000 suite (Word, Outlook, Access, Excel, and Powerpoint), Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer, and general Windows 2000 usage. You will have flexibility in choosing methods of improving these skills. One current method is a monthly column in the department newsletter.

You may also be called upon to develop and deliver training for new hospital systems such as the hospital's new online patient record system.

Another responsibility is to administer tests to employees who wish to test out of the training that is required before an employee can receive an e-mail account.

You would also help representatives from each department learn how to format documents and indexes of documents so that they will be easy to read on the hospital's intranet, and then teach them how to maintain these files on the hospital's intranet server.

This job also involves some Access database development which includes Visual Basic scripting. Rather than trying to train people to be database designers, in this role you would consult with them on their database needs and help them create a new database or extend an existing database for them.

As a member of the help desk team, you will also be expected to help people troubleshoot issues with Office 2000 files by taking calls transferred to you from the help desk. This means delivering just-in-time training to the user, by remotely controlling their desktop. For example, you might receive a simple call from a user who does not know how to set-up an e-mail distribution list, or you might receive a more complex call from someone who needs help creating a query in their Access database that adds up values that meet a certain criteria.

Some other examples of the types of tasks you might train people to use include:

Setting up a mail merge with Word and Excel (or Access).
Creating charts to communicate information to administration (Excel).
Getting Excel spreadsheets to format nicely when printed.
Saving files to and retrieving files from a network location instead of hard drive or floppy disk.
Setting up a meeting using Outlook Calendar.
Creating PDF files and saving them on the intranet with Adobe Acrobat.
Printing a single frame of a webpage in Internet Explorer.
